Banteay Torp

Wow!

This morning we had the chance to visit a remote temple structure that was part of the huge Banteay Chmar complex.  This was a temple dedicated to the military, and it had both the square reservoir around the outer walls, plus the remains of an inner most inside the walls.  The mat was silted in.  Up on the hill stood the remains of Banteay Torp.  This temple site has not been excavated or renovated, and the only paths through were ones we made ourselves, stepping through brush and grass and climbing tumbled stones.  The experience was like finding our own lost ruins!

There were biting red ants and huge HUGE millipedes, and trees were growing out of the ruins at odd angles.  The main stupa was still standing, as a tall rickety pile of white sandstone bricks, crowned with a large greenway tree. It wasn't probably the safest thing--we'd never get to do this in the US--but we climbed all over, up and in, and through those ruins.  It was SO cool!
